Zeigarnik-ing It (Rocket Fuel for Your Brain)

When you actively make an effort to make a prioritized list of what you need to get done the next day, you’re essentially starting a loop in your mind. As you sleep, your brain will automatically begin preparing for the successful closing of loops, also known as the “Zeigarnik Effect.” In the 1920s, Russian psychology researcher Bluma Zeigarnik first quantified the phenomenon after studying how students focused on a test.

When you organize your day in a manner that prioritizes the tasks you’re most passionate about, you’re essentially opening a loop in your mind. As you sleep, your brain will trigger this process, also known as the Zeigarnik Effect. In the mid-twentieth century, Russian psychologist Bluma Zeigarnik researched this phenomenon.

When you make a comprehensive list of what you intend to do the following day, you are essentially entering into a loop in your mind. As you sleep, your mind automatically starts preparing your body for the successful completion of that loop. It is known as the “Zeigarnik Effect” in the 1920s, an epiphany Russian psychologist Bluma Zeigarnik discovered while peering into her own id.
